History of School Founding

1947- Enabling legislation approved by the Texas Legislature to establish a School of Public Health in Texas
1967- Funding was approved by the Legislature and the decision was made to locate a School of Public Health in Houston
1968- Reuel A. Stallones, PhD, was chosen as the first permanent dean of The University of Texas School of Public Health
1969- First student, Lee Smith, PhD, was admitted and graduated

Current Dean

Roberta B. Ness, MD, MPH, began her tenure November 1, 2008.
