Welcome to the Office of Student Affairs Website! We hope your visit here will be helpful and informative. We invite you to come by or call our offices on the 2nd floor of the UTSPH building in Houston.

Regional Campus students can also utilize the staff at Regional Campuses.


The mission of our office is to assist you in successfully attaining your academic goals as a UTSPH student by providing timely and accurate information, quality service and personal guidance. The Office of Student Affairs, in conjunction with the SPH Student Association, also promotes student life and acts as a liaison between students and faculty, advocating for student needs and concerns.


The Office of Student Affairs serves as the central “hub” for the services that will assist you from the time you apply through graduation. The services and support systems we offer include: communicating with prospective students; processing of applicant documents; conducting orientation, providing financial assistance information; administrative support for UTSPH courses and programs, career information, one-to-one counseling, and planning commencement activities.

Mary Ann Smith, PhD

Associate Dean for Student Affairs

Responsible for leadership and oversees all Student Affairs activities at the UTSPH.


Anne Baronitis, MEd

Executive Director of Student Affairs

Oversees the office in Houston and assists in coordinating services at Regional campuses; is the ADA contact person for students with disabilities; advisor to the SPH Student Association; Provides resources to all student organizations; student advocate; ensures appropriate implementation of all academic policies and procedures as they apply to students and their academic endeavors.


Silvia Santiago

Business/Office Manager/Scholarships and Traineeship Coordinator

Coordinator of SPH Scholarships and Traineeships, serves as an Academic Staff Advisor for Certificate/Non-Degree students; Office Manager


Leah Merrill

Systems Analyst

Handles all requests for student data; designs reports; supports technical needs of the office.


John Adams

Coordinator of Student Records

Records manager; manages student committee updates; coordinates student evaluation meetings; manages comment card system, course evaluations, assists in all aspects of student registration.


JR Bright

Academic Advisor

Coordinates academic advising for MPH and MS students; serves as a resource for academic policies and procedures for all SPH students; coordinates pre-graduation audits for degree seeking students.


Pantheia Evans

Program Manager of Career Services

Manages the Career Services, provide resources on how to find jobs, write cover letters and create a strong resume/CV; coordinates seminars in area of career development; collects all student employment opportunities for the school.


Tiaresa Carter

Manager of Admissions

Manages the admissions process for prospective students; serves as an admissions counselor; assists with coordination of the recruitment process for the school; prepares reports on the application and admissions process; assists with new student orientation.


Mariko Okunoren

Administrative Coordinator for Graduation

Coordinates the graduation requirements for all degree seeking students ensuring they are fulfilling  their program’s  graduation requirements.


Keuchie Reed

Administrative Coordinator for Course Scheduling

Prepares SPH Course Schedule as well as update course and faculty information; also publishes student affairs weekly newsletter.


Elvis Parada

Admissions Coordinator

Assists prospective students’ with the admissions process; serves as admissions counselor; assist with New Student Orientation and Open House; respond to any inquiries regarding future admissions to the School of Public Health.
