April 1-7 is National Public Health Week! During this time, each of the UTHealth School of Public Health campuses will be hosting or participating in events that celebrate public health work and service. We’ll also be highlighting personal stories about why people choose to go into public health practice, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter and share your story, too.

April 1: Student iRIS training, morning and afternoon
There will be a morning session from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Rm. 6.352, and an afternoon session from 3 to 5 p.m. in Rm. 6.362. The iRIS training session provides an overview of the iRIS (integrated Research Information System) website used to submit protocols involving human subjects. This is the program used to for all student and center projects. Participants will need a lap top, and registration is required. Please register here.
April 2: Texas Public Health Networking Fair, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This event will take place in the Texas Union Building, Quadrangle Room (UNB 3.304) at 2247 Guadalupe Street Austin, TX 78712.
April 3: SWAL/SAB social from 4:30-5:30 p.m., followed by SWAL/SAB networking dinner with professionals from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
This event is co-sponsored by the Society of Women and Leadership and SAB, and will be held at the Dive Bar & Lounge, 1703 Guadalupe Street Austin, TX 78701. The dinner will be held at the Guadalupe Street Peloton rooftop (5th floor). The dinner catered so if you plan to attend, please RSVP at HTTP://SWALSABNETWORKINGDINNER.RSVPIFY.COM.

April 1: Promotion Table at UTRGV, 11:30 a.m.
As a way of spreading public health awareness and promotion, we will be passing out fliers and promotional materials at UTRGV campus. Join us at the UTRGV student union at 11:30 AM to help us promote the UTHealth programs.
April 2: Public Health Movie Night, 5:00 p.m.
Join us in room N1.130 at 5:00 PM to watch “Mary and Martha” movie about Malaria. There will be snacks, refreshments, and “popcorn!”
April 3: Walk with the Dean, 5:00 p.m.
Come join Dr. Reininger and get your steps in as we go for a walk around campus. Meet us the UTHealth lobby at 5:00 p.m. After the walk, there will be refreshments, fruits, and granola bars. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
April 4: Opportunities in Public Health potluck lunch, 12:00 p.m.
Join us for a potluck lunch in room N1.130 at 12 p.m. for an opportunity to learn about the SPH projects current students are involved in and opportunities for practicum/thesis.
April 5: Volunteer at the Challenge, 5-8 p.m.
Join us at the Brownsville Central Library from 5-8 p.m. (set up starts at 3:30 p.m.) as a volunteer to take final measurements of the Challenge participants.

El Paso Campus:
This year, the El Paso campus is partnering up with the Texas Department of State Health Services – Office of Border Public Health to bring public health activities to elementary school at Ft. Stockton and Van Horn. The theme for this year is the Game of Life, and the students will be going around to different stations participating in different activities with community members, state health booths and UTSPH. Research Day is an opportunity for students to showcase ongoing projects in their respective degree programs. During the event, students will receive valuable feedback from a judging panel. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. The event will take place at UTHealth School of Public Health’s Houston campus (RAS Building, 1200 Pressler St.) in the first-floor lobby and/or RAS 102A/102B on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 9-11:30 a.m. followed by the Steele Lecture from 12-1 p.m.
April 4: James H. Steele Lecture, 12 p.m.
This lecture is presented by the School of Public Health, Center for Infectious Diseases and will take place at 12 p.m. in the RAS Auditorium at 1200 Pressler Street Houston, TX 77030. It will feature Daniel M. Musher, MD, Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine, Professor of Molecular Virology and Microbiology, Baylor College of Medicine, M.E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Houston on "The Etiology of Community-Acquired Pneumonia: More Complicated, More Simple or Both?"
April 5: Admitted Students Day, 4:30-6 p.m.
Recently admitted summer/fall students are invited to attend Admitted Students Day on Friday, April 5, 2019. Admitted Students Day provides you with the opportunity to visit our campus and create a customized experience to help you discover UTHealth School of Public Health. At the conclusion of the day's activities, we will be hosting a reception on the SPH Deck (weather permitting) from 4:30-6 p.m. This day is intended to showcase the School of Public Health for our newly admitted students as they make decisions on whether or not to accept our offers of admission.
