Students launch into spring semester with service

UTHealth School of Public Health students kicked off the new year with service projects in their communities.

SA Food Bank two shot

On Jan. 16, San Antonio students participated in the "Launch into Public Health" day of service – an opportunity to step outside the classroom and into public health practice during new student orientation for the spring semester. They volunteered at the San Antonio Food Bank, where they worked together to sort and package donated produce and non-perishable foods for distribution to needy families.

Mena and students - MLK Day

El Paso students, accompanied by Dean Kristi Mena, PhD, commemorated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a visit to a community center in Fabens, Texas – a small town with its own water system. They talked to residents about water safety and health issues.

DSA Service Event Spring 2019

Dallas students volunteered at The Main Place in Irving on Jan. 10, where they helped organize donations and prepare them for distribution. The Main Place provides free clothes to homeless teens and victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

A day of service is held each spring and fall semester during orientation at participating campuses. Students at all campuses also have many chances to volunteer in their communities throughout the year.
