2020 resolutions; how to stick to your goal of getting healthier

Most of us make resolutions to get fitter and healthier at the start of the New Year. Here's what you'll need to make those resolutions stick.

The experts, like personal trainer Jenny Dean, say you need to eat healthier and work out. You can't do one without the other. Dean says the first thing you need to do is commit.

"It takes 21 days to make a habit. If you can stick to that it will just feel like you are brushing your teeth," Dean said.

Wesley McWhorter, chef and registered dietitian with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health, tells us fitness is 20% working out and 80% what you eat. But if you aren't eating healthy now, you have to make small changes, like adding more vegetables into your dinner.

"Once you're successful with that, add in more vegetables during lunch, or reduce the number of sugar sweetened drinks that you are having during the week," McWhorter said.

Both Dean and McWhorter say you need patience. Results won't happen overnight, and you can't get discouraged at that.

Check out what McWhorter had to say about nutrition trends when he joined the Gen X Fit Podcast below.
