U.S. Health Panel Likely To Make HIV Tests Routine

Reuters, August 29, 2012

The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, a collection of government-supported clinicians and scientists, is expected to recommend that routine HIV screening be provided as a preventative service. This recommendation will have a significant impact on detecting new HIV+ cases earlier and providing treatment. Already the CDC recommends that everyone ages 13-64 should be tested at least once.  Click on the above link to read more!

Previous Use of Alcohol, Cigarettes, and Marijuana and Subsequent Abuse of Prescription Opioids in Young Adults

Fiellin, L.E., Tetrault, J.M., Becker, W.C., Fiellin, D.A., Hoff, R.A. (Aug, 2012). Journal of Adolescent Health.

Young individuals have been found to be abusing prescription opioids at an increasing rate. This study aimed to explore the association between cigarette, alcohol and/or marijuana use during adolescence and subsequent abuse of prescription opioids during young adulthood. Of a sample of almost 6,500 youth ages 18-25, roughly 50% reported using alcohol and cigarettes and about 30% for marijuana. Click on the link to read more!
