About
Laura M. Uribarri serves as an Associate Professor NTI and Program Director for the Healthcare Management Program at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. In her faculty role, she teaches management and health policy courses and provides academic advising for MPH and doctoral students. As Program Director, she works with her colleagues to develop program strategy, manage curriculum, and meet accreditation requirements for the CAHME-accredited Healthcare Management Program. Her research interests are in environmental health and transboundary natural resource policy with a focus on air quality. Laura has over two decades of management, policy, and program leadership experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Previously, Laura served as Assistant Dean for the College of Business at the University of Texas at El Paso. Under her leadership, the UTEP MBA expanded its professional MBA, launched the Executive MBA, and garnered numerous national recognitions. Before transitioning to higher education, Laura served as Vice President of Government Relations for the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, where she managed the Team El Paso state and federal legislative agenda. She then served as Assistant to El Paso Mayor Joe Wardy, acting as liaison to sixteen departments in a strong mayor form of government. She managed the Mayor's intergovernmental advocacy efforts and bi-national relations. Subsequently, Laura served as El Paso Electric’s Senior Government Affairs Representative from her post in Austin, Texas. She managed EPE's team of external lobbyists in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington D.C. Laura earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with honors from Stanford University and holds a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School at UT Austin. As a working professional, wife, and mother of two, Laura earned a Master of Arts in History and a Ph.D. in Borderlands History from The University of Texas at El Paso.
