2021 Commencement Ceremony

Note: if you are a current student planning on graduating, please review the mySPH Commencement and Graduation page for more information, like academic requirements and robe rentals.

We are excited to move forward with our 2021 commencement ceremonies. This year, our goal is to create an experience that honors the hard work, growth, and dedication you have shown throughout your time here.

For the first time in the history of the university, our commencement ceremonies will be held at Minute Maid Park. In this new location, we are able to keep you and your guest’s safety as our top priority while live streaming the event for those unable to attend.

This year, UTHealth will be hosting joint ceremonies. The School of Public Health is paired with UTHealth School of Dentistry and Cizik School of Nursing.

Commencement Ceremony Details

Time: The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. CST, doors open for guests at 12 p.m. CST

Minute Maid Park

Guests and ticket information

Due to the warm weather conditions that are typical during May, we recommend guests wear lightweight clothing.

The guest limit per graduate is eight (8), including children.

  • Parking will be free for all participants and guests in Minute Maid Park’s A, B, C, and D lots.
  • Accessible parking is available in the Diamond Lot, and the accessible entrance is Home Plate Entrance.
  • Metered overflow parking is available in neighboring City of Houston managed surface lots and fees vary ($5.00-$20.00).
  • Guests will enter the venue through the Right Field Entrance or the Home Plate Entrance.

Safety protocols

Safety during the event is our top priority. Guests of graduates will be seated as pods, which are spread out across the venue. Disinfectants will also be available throughout venue, and sanitization procedures are in place for venue and ceremony staff.

We ask those in attendance to adhere to the following protocols:

  • Maintain the mask in common areas. While the CDC has advised that those who are vaccinated no longer need to wear their mask in certain circumstances, given the size of the commencement ceremony and the number of people in attendance, we ask that everyone over the age of five wear a mask in common areas like the concourse and restrooms. Graduates will be expected to wear masks when walking across the stage.
  • Participate in a verbal wellness screening. Event administrators will ask guests a series of screening questions upon arrival.
  • Respect social distancing. Some families may need to maintain social distancing measures for various reasons. Please be mindful of this.
