About
Dr. Guillot-Wright uses participatory and photo-ethnographic research methods to investigate how the political-economy contributes to health disparities in medically underserved communities. Her community-led research has resulted in numerous federal- and state-funded grants to implement and study how free, mobile clinics (i.e., Docside Clinic) and Community Health Workers can address social-structural determinants of health among waterfront workers’. Since 2021, the Docside Clinics have had over 2000 patient encounters, expanded to four locations throughout the Gulf Coast and Caribbean, been featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition, and won two UT Innovation Awards. In 2026, Dr. Guillot’s documentary film - the Hotel of 10,000 Stars - was named a finalist in the ‘Water, Texas Film Festival’ and her research has been featured in the American Journal of Public Health, New York Times, National Public Radio, Houston Public Radio, TIME Magazine, and Houston Chronicle. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals related to precarious employment and the use of evidence in policymaking and made significant contributions on 31 funded contracts and grants, serving as principal investigator on 18 research grants from federal, state, and foundation partners. She also partners on numerous research-to-practice-to-policy implementation projects, working with policymakers, art galleries, film producers, and photographers to bring research to public audiences. Previously, Dr. Guillot-Wright was a Governing Councilor for the American Public Health Association, selected artist for the National Academy of Medicine’s Health Equity Gallery, and member of NIOSH’s Governing Board of Scientific Counselors. She has her MA in Human Rights from Columbia University, PhD in Medical Humanities from UT Medical Branch, completed her postdoctoral training in health policy at Penn State, and served as a Visiting Health Policy Scholar at the Robert Graham Center.
