Dr. Xianglin L. Du is Professor of Epidemiology with Tenure in the Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health (SPH) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Dr. Du completed his medical degree (MB in medicine and public health) and master of science (MS in clinical epidemiology) at the Anhui Medical University in China, and PhD (in epidemiology and public health) at the University of Manchester, England. He has extensive research experience in epidemiologic methods, health service and outcomes research, health disparities, clinical comparative effectiveness, and post-marketing surveillance of adverse-events of cancer therapies using cancer registry data and Medicare claims data in large cohorts of patients with common types of cancer. Dr. Du is currently the PI of the R01 grant (May 2020 – January 2025) entitled “The Risk of Developing Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Associated with Hypertension, Diabetes, and Drug Therapies for Cancer: Up to 30-year Follow-up for Older Medicare Beneficiaries”. He is also the PI of the R01 grant (August 2018 – March 2024 NCE) entitled “Long-term Benefits & Harms of Antihypertensive Drugs in the Elderly: Up to 22-year Follow-Up of ALLHAT Trial Participants”. Dr. Du has been actively involved in teaching, advising and mentoring graduate students, post-doc/clinical fellows or junior faculty in Texas Medical Center in Houston. Dr. Du was selected by the students of the UTSPH for the prestigious ‘John P. McGovern Outstanding Teacher of the Year’ award in 2008. He also received two Dean’s teaching excellence awards in 2009 and 2010. He has been directly involved in advising 172 graduate students (and he served as advisor for 88 students) between Spring 2004 and Summer 2024. Moreover, Dr. Du and colleagues have published 214 articles in peer-reviewed journals and he has mentored his trainees to be the first author of 86 research articles published.
