A UTHealth Houston researcher reviewed existing scientific evidence on how exposure to “forever chemicals,” including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), may influence the risk of congenital heart defects in fetal cardiac development.

The American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) at UTHealth School of Public Health hosted one of three in-person listening sessions to explore the role of physicians in implementing the CDC's 6|18 Initiative.

Resident physicians and practicing physicians from Texas attended an intense two-day workshop to learn practical hands-on tools to effectively diagnose and manage the treatment of patients with work-related orthopedic injuries. This is the sixth year for the Orthopedics Workshop, which is generously supported by Texas Mutual Insurance Company in partnership with the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) and Texas A&M College of Medicine.
