The Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites the community to learn tips on how to be an advocate for immigrant and refugee patients as part of its fall 2022 Diversity and Equity Speaker Series. The discussion is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, via Zoom. The discussion will be in two parts. Mary Ellen Biggerstaff, DNP, FNP, MPH, assistant professor at Frontier Nursing University in Olympia, Washington, will present “Being a Nurse Advocate for your Immigrant and Refugee Patients.” The discussion aims to: Define the role of a nurse advocate and how it applies to each nurse. Discuss how nurses can act as advocates in the individual, hospital system, and government. Name three resources that nurses can use in providing care for immigrants and refugees. Adolfo G. Cueva
