The Veteran Community Network in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites the university community to a virtual event thanking our veterans, active military personnel, and military families for their courageous service.
The annual Rise and Shine event will be held from 11:11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Nov. 11. The livestream can be found online at Go.uth.edu/VeteransDay
The presentation will include the National Anthem; messages from students, faculty, and staff who have served in the military; and a keynote address by Stephanie Ingram, a UTHealth Houston employee who has dedicated her career to providing peer support to veterans and their families.
If you require accommodations to access the Rise and Shine virtual event on Vimeo, please contact the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity at 713-500-CALL or CALL@uth.tmc.edu by Monday, Nov. 8 so the office can make arrangements.
After the event, visit the courtyard of the Denton A. Cooley, MD and Ralph C. Cooley, DDS University Life Center, 7440 Cambridge St., to watch as a patriotic art installation is created on Veterans Day. The temporary exhibition will feature the names of veterans submitted by our trainees, faculty, and staff. Watch a time-lapse video later in the day on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
The UTHealth community can submit names of people who served in the military to be part of a public display. To submit the name(s) of people you would like to recognize, please fill out an online form. Honorees can be anyone you wish to thank for their service: co-workers, students, friends, or family. Names can be submitted online through Monday, Nov. 8.
