Join us for our next learning session on food access and community engagement in the Rio Grande Valley, hosted by Food Security Workgroup members, Phylicia Coleman and Jasmynn Lahner. This session will feature speaker Lisa Mitchell-Bennett, DrPH, who will share insights from recent collaborations that promote health access and equity across the Rio Grande Valley.
Dr. Mitchell-Bennett, originally from Mexico City, has dedicated her career to advancing community health and equity in the region. With a background spanning journalism, public health, and international development, she has led community engagement efforts at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Brownsville for over two decades. Her work includes co-founding a binational Community Health Worker project and leading initiatives such as Tu Salud ¡Sí Cuenta!, which address obesity-related chronic conditions. A steadfast advocate for health equity, access to green spaces, and culturally grounded approaches, Dr. Mitchell-Bennett continues to build partnerships that uplift and empower border communities.
