About
Janelle Rios, MPH, PhD, is a faculty associate in Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Sciences. She serves as the director of the Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (P2R) Consortium and the deputy director of the Texas Epidemic Public Health Institute (TEPHI). With primary interests in biosafety, hazardous materials management, and disaster preparedness and response, Dr. Rios serves as principal investigator (PI) on a large multi-program training award funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Dr. Rios is also the PI of a CDC-funded study to examine the feasibility of using elastomeric respirators in healthcare settings. She also leads UTHealth Houston personal in a project funded by the U.S. Public Health Service that develops and delivers pre-deployment training to public health service officers. Prior to joining UTHealth, Dr. Rios worked for nine years as an environmental investigator specializing in the management of medical waste for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
