Barry R. Davis, MD, PhD is the Guy S. Parcel Chair in Public Health and Professor of Biostatistics and Data Science at the University of Texas School of Public Health (UTSPH) in Houston, Texas. Professor Davis received his BS in Life Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MS and PhD in Applied Mathematics from Brown University as well as an MD from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. For 35 years he has been at the Coordinating Center for Clinical Trials at UTSPH initially as Deputy Director and currently as Director. Dr. Davis’ research interest is in clinical trials, focusing on statistical and clinical trial methodology. He has been a PI or Co-I on over $250 million in research funding including serving as PI/ Director of the Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering to Prevent Heart Attack Trial (ALLHAT) and the Cardiovascular-Based Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN) Coordinating Centers. He also has been the Principal Investigator of the coordinating center for several other major large scale randomized trials. Dr. Davis has over 300 publications in both statistics and medical/public health journals. He served as President of the Society for Clinical Trials (1999-2000), Chair of the Biometrics Section of the American Statistical Association (2003) and was twice Presidential nominee of ENAR. Dr. Davis currently serves on the FDA Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee (2013- 2020). He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Society for Clinical Trials, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Heart Association Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, the American College of Preventive Medicine, and the American Society of Hypertension, and is a member of the International Statistical Institute. He has served on numerous independent data monitoring committees.
