About
I joined UTHealth Houston in 2022 as a tenured Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. In 2025, I assumed the position of Chair of the Department. I was also recognized as the UTHealth Houston Distinguished Chair in Population Health, an endowed position. In addition, I am affiliated with the UTHealth Houston Institute for Implementation Science. Before joining UTHealth, I was a Charles H. Gershenson Distinguished Faculty Fellow of Wayne State University for more than 10 years. My current methodological research is focused on developing statistical methods targeted primarily for precision and personalized medicine through Intervention/Clinical trials. Some of the areas include Non-inferiority, Cluster-Randomized, Stepped Wedge, MOST/SMART/JITAI, N-of-1, and Bayesian Adaptive trials. I have considerable domain expertise in mental health and behavioral science, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and behavioral interventions through long-standing research collaborations. I am a standing member of an NIMH review panel and serve regularly as a reviewer on other federal and non-federal agencies (e.g., PCORI, DOD/CDMRP, etc.). I am a member of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the Society of Clinical Trials (SCT), and the International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology (ISCTM), and I am one of the founding members of the Statistics in Mental Health Section of ASA. In 2024, I was recognized as an elected fellow of the ASA.
