Kaiming Bi, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, Policy & Community Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health (UTSPH) and an affiliated member of the Center for Health Care Data. Dr. Bi’s research focuses on infectious disease modeling and epidemic forecasting to support evidence-based public health decision-making. His work spans a broad range of public health challenges, including respiratory infectious diseases, vector-borne diseases, sexually transmitted infections, and the opioid epidemic. He specializes in mathematical modeling, simulation, optimization, data analytics, and machine learning, applying quantitative and engineering-based methods to complex problems in public health and infectious disease research. Dr. Bi received his PhD in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and previously served as a research associate in the Department of Integrative Biology at The University of Texas at Austin. He has published in PNAS, PLOS Medicine, Nature Communications, JAMA Health Forum, JAMA Network Open, Emerging Infectious Diseases, and other peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Bi currently serves on the editorial boards of BMC Public Health, BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making, and Microbiome and One Health.
