Aparna Subramaniam, PhD, an epidemiology researcher, earned her PhD in Epidemiology in the Fall of 2023 at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. Her PhD thesis focused on angiosarcoma, a rare type of blood vessel cancer. Her research characterized the epidemiologic, clinical, and genomic profile of primary cardiac angiosarcoma, commonly referred to as cancer of the heart.

Kevin Lanza, PhD, assistant professor at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Austin, has been selected as a Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) Equity Research Fellow for 2024. SUHI's fellowship program was designed to conduct health equity research while strengthening ties with scientists who share this focus.

Alumna Kathryn Cardarelli, PhD, MPH, was appointed Dean of the School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS) at the University of Louisville.  

Cardarelli, a 2004 UTHealth Houston School of Public Health graduate, succeeds School of Public Health alumnus and former Dean of SPHIS Craig Blakely, PhD, MPH.

Harold W. (Bill) Kohl, III, Professor of Epidemiology at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Austin and Research Professor of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin, died on January 7, 2024.

Harold W. (Bill) Kohl III, Professor of Epidemiology at the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Austin and Research Professor of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin, died on January 7, 2024. He was regarded as a luminary in public health, epidemiology, and physical activity research. 




The Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) awards $483,612 to School-Based Produce Prescription evaluation

Brighter Bites, in partnership with UTHealth Houston School of Public Health has received $483,612 in federal funding as part of USDA GusNIP grants. This grant will help examine, assess, and address nutritional needs through the Brighter Bites’ home-delivery Produce Prescription Program. The program utilizes DoorDash to deliver fresh fruits and vegetables to students and their families at four school-based health clinics in Galena Park ISD, Texas.
