Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences secures $55.5 million grant, extends leadership in translational research

The Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences at UTHealth Houston has secured a $55.5 million grant from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, an agency of the National Institutes of Health, extending its funding through 2031.

Omowale Goes Global

Serwaa Omowale, PhD, LMSW, MPH, assistant professor at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Dallas, was selected as a LEAD Global Training Program fellow. Omowale’s selection as a LEAD trainee allowed her to travel to Uganda for a 10-week program to gain the necessary skills needed to lead multi-disciplinary research aimed at underserved communities across the globe.

Researchers Find Nicotine Use Increased Self-Harm Ideations Among Young Adults

New research finds that cigarette/e-cigarette use directly increases the risk of suicidal ideation among young adults. Associate Professor Anna V. Wilkinson, PhD, with the Department of Epidemiology, served as the first author of the study published in Nicotine & Tobacco Research.

UTHealth Houston researcher serves on the executive board of World Triathlon

Gabriela Gallegos, JD, MPP, associate professor of management, policy & community health at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health serves on the executive board of World Triathlon, the international governing body for the sport of Triathlon and all related multisport, where she plays a critical role in setting policy for the sport and organization. That includes developing and implementing policies that ensure the health and safety of participating triathletes.

Spring ‘24 Practicum Reflections: Shay Olaifa

Shay Olaifa, a sophomore at Rice University, is majoring in political science with a minor in politics, law, and social thought. She discovered UTHealth Houston School of Public Health Center for Health Equity (CHE) through the inaugural Community Health Practicum hosted by Rice University School of Social Sciences Frances Anne Moody-Dahlberg Gateway Program.
