Oropharyngeal Cancer Early Detection Study (ORCA).
Project Overview
ORCA is a mixed methods study to examine barriers and opportunities for the early detection of oropharyngeal cancer among gay and bisexual men.
To improve screening and detection of oropharyngeal cancer among gay and bisexual men, we are conducting a 3-part study:
Aim 1: Interview medical and dental teams with large GBM client bases in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN and Houston, TX.
Aim 2: Survey 1500 GBM in the US to determine knowledge and beliefs about OPCa, HPV vaccination knowledge and uptake, experiences with providers and screening, and willingness to engage in screening.
Aim 3: Assess the feasibility of a remote patient monitoring telecommunications-based intervention We are currently finishing Aim 2 and preparing the collected data for analysis. We are also actively disseminating the results from Aim 1.
This is an NIH funded project.
