For Our Children (Por Nuestros Hijos).
Project Overview
For Our Children (Por Nuestros Hijos) is a theory-based program designed to educate Hispanic parents about the human papillomavirus (HPV). The program features bilingual (English/Spanish) resources, which health professionals can use to educate parents about HPV, address parental concerns, and motivates them to vaccinate their adolescent children (11 - 17 years). The program also includes an interactive application for healthcare providers (‘HPV Cancer Coach’) an innovative cancer prevention research training program for healthcare providers designed to increase uptake and completion of HPV vaccination among age-eligible adolescents.
In the United States an estimated 79 million Americans are currently infected with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV vaccination rates among adolescents in Texas fall short of the Healthy People 2030 goal of 80%. Our goal is to provide healthcare professionals with the tools they need to aid parents in the decision to protect their children from HPV-related cancers by vaccinating them against HPV. Together, we can help reduce the burden of cancer and health disparities, especially among those disproportionately affected.
This program was developed by the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health with funding from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).
