About

Gabriela Gallegos, JD, MPP is an attorney and Associate Professor at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in the Department of Management, Policy, and Community Health at the El Paso location and coordinator of the Leadership Theory and Practice Certificate. Her research focuses on food systems, community partnerships, and social determinants of health, and she aims to translate data into actionable policy and program improvements. Her work on food access examines the affordability and availability of healthy food in retail outlets and the connections between food access and community health outcomes. Her work bridges legal frameworks and community health to improve health outcomes, advance resilience, and effectively mobilize individuals, organizations, and communities to build a culture of health. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Philosophy (double major) at Cornell University; she earned her law degree and Masters in Public Policy at University of California, Berkeley. A local, national, and international leader, she serves on the Board of Directors for USA Triathlon and is Vice President of World Triathlon, the international governing body for the Olympic sport. She also sits on the governing board for The Hospitals of Providence downtown El Paso campuses.
