Health of Texas Bridge 1 - Inflammation
The First Phase of Health of Texas Community Testing
As part of this first phase of Health of Texas: Bridge 1, we are looking at inflammation. Participants selected for this phase will receive results for C-reactive Protein (CRP) and total cholesterol tests. These will give us insights into their health and inflammation status at the time of the tests. Not all Health of Texas participants will be chosen for this phase.
Why inflammation?
Inflammation is your body’s natural response to an illness, injury, or something foreign to your body. When inflammation lasts a long time or affects healthy tissue, it becomes chronic, which can harm your health in the long term.
Health of Texas: Bridge 1 is interested in understanding long-term inflammation and its relationship to chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Read more about inflammation here.
What will participants do?
- Participants will receive their test order number by text.
- Participants will go to their local CPL to complete the blood draw. They do not need to fast for testing. Important: Health of Texas samples cannot be collected at CPL’s Pearland PSC. Please choose an alternative location, such as Lake Jackson PSC or Almeda PSC, to complete your Bridge testing.
- Between two and five days after the draw, participants will receive their test results.
What’s next?
We will select a small number of Health of Texas: Bridge 1 participants’ tests for the NULISAseq Inflammation Panel, which tests for 250+ inflammation biomarkers. No additional blood will need to be drawn for these samples. If selected for this second panel, participants will also receive those test results.
