School Health Advisory Councils 101What is the purpose of this tool?
This Facts & Tips Sheet introduces the concept of a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), including what a SHAC is, what a SHAC does, and member roles in a SHAC; it also outlines how to contact SHAC coordinators and how to participate in a SHAC. This information is especially useful for people who are interested in participating in policy deliberations about school health issues, including sex education, but are not already active in the local SHAC. There are three different fact sheets.
Who should receive this tool?
This document may be printed and distributed to district parents, students, community members, and district personnel (teachers, curriculum coordinators) who may be interested in participating in their district’s school health advisory council.
