Overview

Through our healthcare management and policy program, students develop a thorough understanding of the intricacies and dynamics of health systems. They examine the operations of health services organizations and analyze the impact of policy on health systems and population health. Graduates of the healthcare management program pursue careers in administrative and executive roles to further support health service delivery, regulation, operations, supply chain, and finance.

The Master of Public Health in Healthcare Management is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in management and a basis for understanding key managerial functions within the broad spectrum of public health systems. Students gain critical skills in all aspects of management, including organizational behavior, quality, finance, accounting, operations management, law, and strategy, which will help optimize organizational and community decision-making. A distinctive characteristic of this healthcare management degree program is the recognition of the critical linkage between private sector and public sector healthcare management and related community health initiatives.

Designed to meet the needs of working professionals, courses for the MPH in Healthcare Management are offered online (asynchronous and synchronous), in person, and in a hybrid format. The executive-style program in El Paso is the only one of its kind in the region and across our locations.

Department Overview

This degree program is managed by the Department of Management, Policy, and Community Health (MPACH).

The department chair is Aanand Naik, MD, and the academic and admissions advisor is Leticia Valles.

Admission Requirements

Healthcare Management MPH candidates must meet the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health’s general admission requirements.

Program Requirements

The MPH program requires students to complete 45 credit hours as detailed in the Healthcare Management MPH degree planner. The program can be completed in as few as 20 months. Students are eligible to elect one or more graduate certificates to complete in addition to required coursework.
