About
Dr. Jiaming Liang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, Policy & Community Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, San Antonio Campus. Dr. Liang’s research interests encompass the psychological and social experiences of family caregivers of older adults with long-term care needs, particularly those living with dementia (PLWD), and evidence-based interventions designed to mitigate the challenges of caregiving. Dr. Liang integrates community-based and health-system approaches to examine how family, social, and behavioral factors shape the health outcomes of caregivers and the quality of dementia care. His work includes developing and evaluating in-person and telehealth psycho-behavioral education programs for dementia caregivers and applying large language model (LLM)-based artificial intelligence to enhance communication and care coordination between caregivers and clinical providers. He also uses nationally representative datasets to investigate caregiving experiences, unmet care needs, and health disparities among diverse populations from an epidemiological perspective. Dr. Liang received cross-cultural and interdisciplinary training in advanced research and analytic methodologies, as well as community-based research and practice. He earned his General and Clinical Psychology degrees from the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at Zhejiang University, China, and his Ph.D. in Social Work from the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California.
