About

Vanessa Schick, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Practice at UTHealth School of Public Health. With over a decade of expertise in community-engaged research, she focuses on underserved populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness, criminal justice involvement, or sex work. Dr. Schick has nearly 150 publications on the health of underserved communities. She serves as Project Director for a CPRIT-funded initiative (PP0017555; expansion PP220022) delivering hepatitis B/C education, testing, vaccination, and treatment via the GRASSROOTS HEALTH model. As Multiple Principal Investigator on Project HALT (R01 MD018213), she leads a pragmatic trial on homelessness diversion from emergency departments. She is also PI on an employment-based housing clinical trial (1R01NR021997). Over the past five years, she has led or co-led over a dozen grants improving care for people experiencing homelessness, all grounded in community priorities and partnerships. Her awards include the 2013 APHA Outstanding Young Professional Award, 2016 Barbara Seaman Emerging Activist Award, and 2018 UTHealth Excellence in Community Service Award.
