About
William “Brett” Perkison, M.D., MPH, obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology at Texas A&M University and then his medical degree at UTMB Galveston. He completed his intern year in Family Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and then served three years as General Medical Officer stationed overseas in the U.S. Navy. He then returned to Baylor to complete his Family Medicine Residency and completed a second residency Occupational and Environmental medicine at the UT School of Public Health. Prior to joining SPH faculty he has had extensive experience in international corporate occupational medicine, occupational medicine for underserved populations, and director of the occupational medicine department of a large tertiary care health system. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University Of Texas School Of Public Health in the division of Occupational and Environmental sciences and holds a joint appointment at UT Health Dept of Family Medicine. He is the program director for the occupational and environmental medicine program at the school. His research interests include improving participation rates in both worksite and community based diabetes prevention programs. He is also interested in identifying ways to improve employer and community disaster preparedness and has developed e-learning technology tools to assist residents and workers. He is also currently involved in research in the specific areas of heat stress prevention. In addition to his research and educational responsibilities, he maintains a clinical practice one day a week at the UT Physician' s employee health clinic where he treats both primary care and occupationally related injuries and illnesses and serves as the assistant medical director for UTHealth employee health.
