Alumni from the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health gathered for a special reception at the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Connect 2025 in Kansas City, MO. This annual conference highlights emerging trends, cutting-edge research, new technologies, and advanced training in occupational health and safety. It brings together professionals dedicated to safeguarding the health, safety, and environment of today’s workplaces, supporting their mission to protect worker health more efficiently and effectively.

At the conference, Catherine Turlington, MPH – an alumna of the Industrial Hygiene training program through the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) – presented research led by Jooyeon Hwang, PhD, at the student poster session. Her presentation, titled “The role of decontamination wipes on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) removal on firefighter skin,” examines how decontamination wipes may help reduce firefighters’ exposure to toxicants such as PAHs.
