About

Dr. Robert Hammarberg serves as a Faculty Associate in the Department of Management, Policy and Community Health and Assistant Director of Public Health Practice and Engagement. In this role, he helps oversee practicum services, career services, and alumni affairs, ensuring students receive the guidance, resources, and professional experiences necessary for success in the field of public health. He plays a key role in strengthening partnerships between academia and public health agencies, enhancing experiential learning opportunities, and advancing workforce development initiatives. Dr. Hammarberg is actively involved in the Gaining Equity in Training for Public Health Informatics and Technology (GET PHIT) program, a nearly $10 million initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Through this project, he helps expand and diversify the public health informatics workforce by developing student and professional training opportunities, coordinating internships with public and private sector partners, and supporting career placement efforts. He also leads the school's ACTion Lab, fostering collaboration between students, faculty, and community organizations to address pressing public health challenges through applied research and practice. His expertise extends to academic partnerships, curriculum development, and student mentorship. Additionally, he has been instrumental in shaping policies and programs that bridge the gap between education and practice, including pre-practicum professional training modules, faculty development workshops, and initiatives that increase access to public health education in underserved areas. Dr. Hammarberg holds a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Community Health Practice from UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology.
