About
Dr. Robert Hammarberg serves as Assistant Dean of Practice and Partnerships and a Faculty Associate in the Department of Management, Policy and Community Health at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. He leads initiatives that strengthen connections between academic training and public health practice through experiential learning, strategic partnerships, workforce development, and community engagement. In his role, he oversees practicum and career services, alumni engagement, professional training, academic partnerships, and schoolwide practice-based initiatives. He works collaboratively with university leadership, faculty, students, public health agencies, health systems, and community organizations to expand opportunities for applied learning and strengthen academic–practice partnerships. Dr. Hammarberg also plays a leadership role in advancing workforce development initiatives and has helped establish and expand several schoolwide initiatives, including Texas's first formally recognized Academic Health Department partnership. While his research focuses on public health workforce development as well as the impacts of urbanization and rapid population growth on public health, his expertise spans academic–practice partnerships, experiential education, curriculum innovation, and strategic engagement. He holds a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Community Health Practice from UTHealth Houston, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in State and Local Government from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology.
