About
Gabriela Gallegos, JD, MPP is an attorney, social entrepreneur, and Associate Professor with The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) School of Public Health in the Department of Management, Policy, and Community Health at the El Paso campus. As part of the Center for Community Health Impact (CCHI), she focuses on policies and programs related to healthy eating and active living. Driven by the needs of the community and informed by the best science, the CCHI provides a bridge between research and application to effectively mobilize individuals, families, organizations, and communities to build a culture of health. Her food access work focuses on increasing the affordability and availability of healthy food in retail outlets. Her physical activity research considers the entry point for adult women of color to engage in consistent physical activity through triathlon (swim-bike-run). Gallegos serves on the Executive Boards of World Triathlon, Americas Triathlon, and USA Triathlon, the international, continental, and national governing bodies for the sport, respectively. She also sits on the Governing Board for The Hospitals of Providence downtown campuses.
