About

Maria Ukhanova, MD PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, Policy and Community Health at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. She completed her PhD dissertation at UTHealth focusing on the epidemiology of multimorbidity clusters, and polypharmacy among working-age adults living with multiple chronic conditions. Since then, she has advanced her analytical skills and expanded her interests in multimorbidity research working with EHR data during her postdoctoral fellowship at the Oregon Health & Science University. As a health services researcher with a clinical background, strong statistical analytical skills, and expertise with large administrative databases for research, she uses real-world data to improve quality of care and patient safety. Her current work studies the effects of polypharmacy on health services utilization, the inappropriate prescribing of pain medications in stroke patients, and prescribing trends of GLP-1 medications in obese and non-obese populations.
