AHA awards $1.2 million for Food is Medicine research at UTHealth Houston 

The American Heart Association (AHA) awarded a cumulative $1.2 million to UTHealth Houston School of Public Health researchers to test the effectiveness of Food is Medicine interventions to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.

White House Challenge to End Hunger approves UTHealth Houston innovative commitments to Food Is Medicine

Three commitments to improve food security, diet quality, and health outcomes for vulnerable communities, made by UTHealth Houston in partnership with local and national organizations, have been approved as part of the White House Challenge to end Hunger and Build Healthy Communities.

UTHealth Houston ranks among best in U.S. in research funding

Study: Using Nutrition Facts labels linked to healthier eating choices among eighth and 11th grade students

Using the Nutrition Facts labels to make food choices is significantly associated with healthy eating among eighth and 11th grade students in Texas, although the proportion of students using nutrition labels to make their food choices is low, according to research from UTHealth Houston.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has selected 12 applicants that will each establish a Regional Food Business Center. UTHealth Houston School of Public Health Center for Community Health Impact has partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and other Texas and New Mexico organizations to lead the Rio Grande Colonias USDA Regional Food Business Center over the next five years.

Four faculty, representing three UTHealth Houston schools, are among the inductees into the 2023 class of The University of Texas Kenneth I. Shine, MD, Academy of Health Science Education. 

The honor is bestowed annually to outstanding faculty from across UT System’s academic health institutions. They will be formally inducted with a ceremony on March 4.
