About

Shannon Guillot-Wright, PhD is an Associate Professor in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and Deputy Director of the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health. She also serves as the Director of TWH at SWCOEH and Director of Health Policy at the Violence and Injury Prevention Research Center. Dr. Guillot-Wright uses participatory and photo-ethnographic research methods to investigate how the political-economy contributes to health disparities in medically underserved communities. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts in high-impact journals related to precarious employment and the use of evidence in policymaking and made significant contributions on 31 funded contracts and grants, serving as PI on 18 research grants from federal, state, and foundation partners. Her collaborative research has resulted in the implementation and evaluation of free, moblie clinics (i.e., Docside Clinic), which holistically address waterfront workers’ lack of access to primary care, mental health care, and safety net social services. Since 2021, they have had over 2000 patient encounters and expanded to three locations throughout the Gulf Coast. She has partnered on numerous research-to-policy implementation projects, worked with art galleries, film producers, and photographers to bring research to public audiences, and her work has been featured in AJPH, NYT, NPR, TIME Magazine, Texas Monthly, and Houston Chronicle. Dr. Guillot-Wright is a Governing Councilor for APHA and was formerly a board member for the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research, Health Policy Scholar for the Robert Graham Center, selected artist for the National Academy of Medicine’s Health Equity Gallery, and member of NIOSH’s Governing Board of Scientific Counselors. She has her PhD in Medical Humanities from UT Medical Branch, MA in Human Rights from Columbia University, and completed her postdoctoral training at Penn State.
