A recent Texas study concluded student fitness is strongly related to academic performance, yet cash-strapped schools often feel stuck in the middle when it comes to choosing how to allocate limited resources: promote student health or focus solely on education? Critical decisions are being made regarding financing of public schools and the fitness of Texas school children. These decisions can have long-term consequences. After all, research shows that physically fit children become fit adults and are more likely to be better parents, citizens, employees, and entrepreneurs.
