Earth Day 2019

On April 19, 2019, Dr. Elaine Symanski, Director of the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) participated in Earth Day by highlighting the Center’s activities in Research, Practice, Outreach and Education. Dr. Symanski focused on SWCOEH research on identifying health risks to vulnerable populations in Houston, Texas and the world.  She also mentioned rapid response activities in dealing with disasters that impact population and public health like Hurricane Harvey and the recent Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) fire.  She ended with brief remarks about academic programs in worker health and well-being – with traineeships available through the SWCOEH with funding from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as one of 18 Education and Research Centers (ERCs) in the nation.
