UTHealth Houston School of Public Health Selected for Statewide Rural Hospital Leadership Initiative

Houston, TX — UTHealth Houston School of Public Health has been selected to represent The University of Texas (UT) System in a new statewide initiative, the Texas Rural Hospital Officers Academy, designed to strengthen financial leadership and long-term stability of rural hospitals across Texas.

Texas maternal health initiative launches first in-person learning sessions for hospital teams

LASSO-TX (Lactation and Safe Sleep Opportunities in Texas) is a hospital-based quality improvement initiative of the Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers and Babies (TCHMB), in collaboration with the Texas Department of State Health Services.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Maria Jimenez as of Tuesday, December 1, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. Maria was a research associate for the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) in the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health.

After success in FinTech, Duncan Van Dusen sought out the School of Public Health at the age of 36 looking to apply his skills to public service. The Austin campus’ regional dean at the time suggested he reach out to Dr. Steve Kelder, professor, and now-associate regional dean. It turned out to be the start of a 14 year-and-counting collaboration, which has led to the establishment of CATCH Global Foundation, and on November 10, the publication of Van Dusen’s book When Are We Going to Teach Health?
