After graduating with a MD from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in Chennai, India, Mahima spent a few years working as a graduate research associate and clinical intern in the US, working on the front line during the COVID-19 quarantine in 2020 in Florida. Drawn to the potential of primordial prevention of disease and the application of public health concepts in clinical medicine, she enrolled in the MPH program at the Austin location of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health in 2022. In her current role as Project Coordinator/Research Associate for the CDC CCR-B project ‘HEART ATX’, she enjoys participating in a community-placed program that works to address disparities in health care access.

Mahima’s interests are in infectious disease, global health, preventive medicine, emergency preparedness health policy, health equity and grassroots-level initiatives that drive positive change .

Outside of work, Mahima is busy juggling her (many!) hobbies which include mixed martial arts, establishing a zero-waste household, reading, swimming, travel, brewing kombucha and chasing after her cats, Samosa and Chutney.
