Developing and Scaling Up a Global Monitoring System for Healthy and Sustainable Cities

Speaker: James Sallis, PhD & Deborah Salvo, PhD
Length: 1:02:43 minutes

Cities are considered hubs for economic activity and for human development. It is estimated that by 2050, 68% of the global population will live in cities. As such, understanding and leveraging the influence of urban policy and design on our health, and on our planet's sustainability, is a key global public health priority. This webinar provides an overview of the evidence linking urban form and policy to physical activity and health-related outcomes, and introduces the audience to the development and application of a first-generation of indicators to assess the degree to which cities across the globe are promotive of health and sustainability. The audience also learns about the mission and goals of the Global Observatory of Health and Sustainable Cities, and is provided information on how to join this collaborative initiative.
