Keep Moving: Staying Active When It’s Rainy or Muggy
Some days, the weather can make it hard to exercise. Here in the Valley, rain and muggy days can make it feel sticky and heavy outside. But staying active is still possible — and your body will thank you!
Listen to Your Body
On wet or humid days, your body may feel more tired or sweaty than usual. Pay attention to how you feel and why it might be harder to move:
-
The heavy, humid air can make breathing feel harder.
-
Weather changes can flare up seasonal allergies.
-
You might not have the right shoes or clothing for rain.
-
Wet, muddy outdoor surfaces can make walking or running tricky.
Noticing these things helps you adjust your activity safely and comfortably.
Tips for Exercising in Rain or Humidity
-
Indoor options: March or jog lightly in your living room while watching TV or listening to music. You can also try yoga, stretching, or a quick workout video at home.
-
Walk safely: Even a 10–15 minute walk in a light drizzle helps. Or find indoor places to walk — some parks have open gyms, and local malls are great for walking without getting wet.
-
Timing matters: Exercise during cooler parts of the day, like morning or early evening.
-
Stay hydrated: Humidity can make you sweat more, so drink plenty of water before, during, and after activity.
