Helpful Ways to Enjoy more Fruits and Veggies

This is the last week of National Nutrition Month®, and this week's theme is incorporating fruits and veggies into meals.  Below are some helpful ways to enjoy more fruits and veggies. There are also some tips and tricks for hiding veggies or fruit  in different foods! 

Ways to enjoy more fruits and veggies:

  • Use veggies as pizza toppings
  • Smoothies for breakfast (add a leafy green or avocado or both)
  • Add veggies to eggs for breakfast (spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers)
  • Make a pasta or pizza sauce by sautéing veggies like tomatoes, onions, sweet potato, squash, add tomato paste, vegetable or chicken broth for the liquid, then blend together 
  • Crunchy veggies with dips
  • Add extra veggies to salads as toppings
  • Have veggies already cut up in fridge for easily accessible snack
  • Have fresh fruit easily accessible (on kitchen counter or dining room table)
  • When baking cakes, consider adding in shredded zucchini or carrot to add additional moisture and veggies 
  • Add fruit to morning cereal or oatmeal
  • Make fruit your dessert by adding yogurt and some chocolate chips
  • Steam frozen veggies for quick side dish
