The Central Texas Healthy Adolescent Project (CTHAP) is a community organization-led, school-based initiative aimed at promoting optimal health and reducing teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STI) among middle and high school students in Austin and Travis County, Texas. The primary program components of CTHAP are: (1) effective sexual health education based on Positive Potential[1] (middle school students) and Positive Prevention Plus (high school students)[2] - evidence-based positive youth development, sexual health education and teen pregnancy prevention curricula; (2) youth, family and community engagement in systems improvement; and (3) support services system improvement. The evaluation of CTHAP aims to provide an intentional space to learn about the implementation and process of the Central Texas Healthy Adolescent Project as well as the impact of program components on positive youth development-related outcomes that include knowledge and self-efficacy for healthy relationships and sexual and reproductive health practices.
