DJ is a member of the Texas School Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) Survey. He has an AB in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University and an MPH in Epidemiology from the UTHealth School of Public Health in Austin. During his time in graduate school, he worked in COVID-19 response as a contact tracer and case investigator; performed research with the SNAP-Ed team; and joined Dr. Eric Brown's team for Tropical Infectious Diseases as a teaching assistant.

Outside of work, DJ can be found playing music on his violin, viola, or piano; hiking the trails or swimming in the creeks at the Green Belt; or enjoying a meal with friends on one of Austin's many fantastic restaurant patios.

The Texas SPAN survey was established to track the prevalence of overweight and obese school-aged children in Texas.
